Welcome to The Cowichan Post, a new publication for the Cowichan Valley that we hope will help readers “Make Sense of the News”.

We have designed a product that will be delivered by Canada Post to over 22,500 homes, apartments and businesses from Chemainus through to Cowichan Bay.

Initially we plan to publish monthly, with plans to move to weekly as sson as advertising support makes that possible. From the start we will have an online presence at cowichanpost.ca. Also look for us on Facebook.

Our primary focus will be to prepare in-depth analysis on issues of importance to the Cowichan Valley.

In this issue you will find detailed reporting on consultations and preparations for the design of a new facility to replace Cowichan District Hospital.

In the future we will be looking at municipal taxation and other topical matters as they arise or are timely for community discussion.

We will also feature news items that may point to the need for further analysis and understanding. If public feedback indicates readers are interested in getting more detailed information on these stories, we will provide that.

Cowichan Post will offer space for guest columns in every issue and we will, of course, devote significant space to Letters to the Editor.

We see our role as supporting informed discussion on matters of importance to the Cowichan Valley.

So please enjoy the first edition. We hope it delivers on our goal of providing information and context currently lacking.

Most importantly, give us feedback in the form ofcomments, letters for publication, and any other input you think may add value to our local newspaper.

  1. Hi Nick.
I like your logo and this sounds like a very welcomed news outlet. I personally would prefer to view it on line only. Can it be sent to my email address?

    • THank you!

We’ll consider adding an email option; that’s a good idea!

We can’t unfortunately turn off specific delivery addresses. Canada Post delivery for news material is an all or none proposition, but I can understand your point.

  2. Congratulations for your decision to begin publication of The Cowichan Post. I believe that it is very important that the Cowichan Valley have a publication that reports local issues and also promotes our beautiful area. I have a keen interest in the history of the Cowichan Valley. I have lived her for the past 33 years and recently became aware that there was a Pioneer Methodist Cemetery located at the end of Pioneer Road , which is a very short road off of Herd Road in Maple Bay. This past Sunday I explored this very historic site. The recent storm in December has left the access road and the Cemetery littered with branches and debris. Might be the subject of an article sometime in the future.

  3. It’s about time that we got a newspaper here in the Cowichan Valley. Keep up the good work. The in-depth articles are well worth the read, hope the advertisers, and potential advertisers think the same way and give you the monetary support you need (and deserve!).

One thing though, the yellow script on the web site is way to difficult to “see” and read!

Although I appreciate that the internet is the way to go, the printed version is much appreciated and an easier read than any web site!

Here’s hoping this first edition will lead to another and another and another, etc.!
