Many of the parents of these players played for the Oak Acorns 25 years ago, says Roger Bruce, current coach and player starting 25 years ago. His own daughter Holly, aged 19, is on the current roster.
They were originally the Oak and Carriage Pub in the Cowichan Valley Slow Pitch League, coached then by Gerry Rees, a Sports Hall of Famer.
In 1994 the team went on to win the nationals, said Bruce.
Their current roster has 20 team members, with 12 of them able to make games on most game days during the three-month season starting in late April. Fifteen teams field players in the league.
Playoffs begin later this month.
